( MS ) HANNAH ABIGAIL THOMAS | ||
DATE OF BIRTH: | 02/01/1995 ( 19 ) | FEMALE |
PHYSICAL: | As you might expect of someone who’s ability revolves around death, Hannah Thomas is absolutely covered in scars. Tall and slender, barely an inch of her pale peach skin is left without some kind of mark, whether it’s from a cut that never properly healed or a burn that was left untreated for too long. Only recently coming out of the Keller Institute, Hannah is still visibly exhausted from her trials there, carrying heavy bags and thick dark rings under her eyes. Her hair, even when braided into two mid-length plaits, is wispy and frizzy, never really coming under the brunette’s control, no matter how much hair product she layers over the top. Thanks to the last experiment she was involved in, Hannah is currently bound up in bandages from her head to her toes. Nursing a broken left arm, a deep corneal abrasion, numerous cuts to her torso, face and limbs, as well as a fractured eye socket, the youngest Thompson child is looking rather worse for wear. Only one of her eyes is visible at this point in time, the other one still recovering from the cornea trauma and fracture. Both her eyes are a stormy grey, framed by thick lashes and arched brows. While it may be uncomfortable for some to view the walking horror show that is Hannah’s injured body, the girl retains a certain delicate charm that draws in those thinking themselves heroes. Walking with small, timid steps and forever hunched shoulders, it’s not uncommon for people to believe they might be able to ‘save’ her from her supposedly tragic fate. | 12th |
ABILITIES: | Not to be confused with immortality, where a person cannot die or be killed, Hannah has the unique ability to revive herself from a deceased state. Her revivals are always performed automatically, giving Hannah no choice in whether or not she rises back from the grave. Although scientists have yet to find a specific cell that jump starts Hannah’s vital organs, it’s theorised that her body contains a unique gene that, if replicated and mass produced, could give humanity the ability to do away with death As the name implies, the number of times Hannah can resurrect herself is limitless, although her ability neglects to cover every method in which she could be killed. She can come back from being shot in the head with no side-effects, however something like beheading would finish her off for good. From scientists' observations, so long as a little over half of Hannah's brain is functional and attached to her body, she cannot be permanently killed. Depending on the damage done to her body, it can take up to twelve hours (the shortest time clocking in at thirty minutes and the longest taking two days, however Hannah’s resurrection ability will usually trigger after two hours) for Hannah to be revived, during which time she suffers all the typical stages of decomposition for a human. It takes slightly longer for Hannah to shake off the effects her temporary death had on her body, such as rigor mortis and purpling of the skin, making her look rather corpse-like until her body has had enough time to resume blood flow. Hannah heals at a rate typical of a human. Broken bones take weeks to meld back together, and deeper cuts rarely heal properly without the help of stitches. Her abilities have no effect on how fast or slow Hannah knits herself back together, so any injuries she sustains before her death must be naturally healed post-resurrection. The only exceptions to this rule are fatal wounds, like injuries done to the vital organs, which are healed during the period between Hannah’s death and her revival. New limbs cannot be generated if Hannah is ever dismembered, meaning any missing limbs will need to be replaced with a prosthetic. As mentioned above, the more dramatic the finishing blow, the longer it takes Hannah to wake up. Keep in mind that Hannah feels just as much pain as anyone else, so while she may be able to come back from having her entrails ripped out, she’ll still feel the incredible agony that comes with mutilation. | INFINITE RESURRECTION |
ASSESSMENT: | For the most part, Hannah seems completely detached from the world around her. She shows little emotion or concern for anything, no matter how violent or distressing it may be. Nothing appears to interest or arouse her attention, and for the most part is seems that she spends most of her time lost in a day dream. One could possibly call her sociopathic, what with the lack of empathy she shows for other humans. If someone grieves over a lost pet, family member or friend, Hannah is unable to comprehend the problem, being so accustomed to death that it doesn’t effect her in the slightest. She reacts the same way to any complaints of pain, be it emotional or physical, having gone through intense agony while her body is stitched back together so often that, like the big sleep, it leaves her totally unruffled. Due to the anesthetics she’s spent most of her life under, Hannah has very slow reaction times. She isn’t a person you would describe as thick, however many people assume she’s somewhat stupid due to the time it takes her to process information and the way in which she carries herself with a painfully blank look on her face. She’s told her caretakers that everything feels hazy since coming off the drugs; it’s almost like she’s trying to swim through jelly whenever someone tries talking to her. Because of this, she rarely speaks in full sentences, usually only muttering broken fragments of a phrase or nodding dumbly. In order to cope with the experiments, Hannah became obedient to a fault. If you told her to eat dirt, you can guarantee she would be on her knees shoving dirt into her mouth until you told her to stop. She isn’t masochistic, deriving no joy or pleasure from being humiliated or punished - in fact, she willingly debases herself to avoid further humiliation and punishment, hoping that by appeasing someone immediately, they’ll leave her alone. On top of that, she has a nasty habit of taking things a little too literally. For example, using the phrase ‘go play in traffic’ around Hannah would lead her to, quite literally, play in traffic in hopes of pleasing you. Really, Hannah is a pretty intelligent girl. Once she’s given a minute to process information, she tends to understand moderately complex instructions and formulas more often than not. Whether or not she can properly express her understanding is another thing, however, given the chance, Hannah can prove herself much smarter than you might have guessed at first glance. Hannah is aware that her living situation and powers are unique, although she still finds it difficult to be gentle with others. Having more than her fair share of rough touches, she’s learned to emulate the strength the doctor’s showed her during her time at the Institute. Because of this, she frequently leaves bruises on her fellow students and teachers, whether she’s trying to innocent high five them or shake their hand, Hannah puts far too much force into her actions in order to seem physically stronger than she really is. It’s been explained to her a few times that she isn’t expected to be as powerful as she believed the scientists who worked on her to be, however it doesn’t seem to have sunk in yet. The only times Hannah ever seems to express emotion is when she’s scolded. Unable to handle criticism, the brunette withdraws even deeper into herself, sulking for days until she’s praised. During her periods of childlike despair, she’s even quieter than usual, as well as much grumpier, often huffing and making a grand show of storming away from you. | HETEROSEXUAL |
COMMENTS: | Hannah Thompson died when she was seven. Walking home from school with her father, she neglected to look both ways before running across the street, giggling about how she was going to beat her dad home, right up until the truck hit her. Crushing her tiny body on impact, Hannah was dead before her father even got to the mangled corpse that was once his daughter. As you can imagine, the loss was devastating for the family. Losing their youngest child of three - as well as their only daughter - wasn’t something anyone could get over quickly. While Hannah’s parents blamed themselves for her death, her older brothers Kenneth and George, only eight and eleven respectively, were unable to accept their little sister was gone, and struggled to cope with their parents’ sudden depression. Amidst a chaotic two days of tears, funeral arrangements and despair, the family received a phone call from the local morgue; Hannah was alive. Two days after the girl had officially been declared deceased and moved to the care of a mortician in preparation for her funeral, Hannah had woken up moments before she was due to be embalmed. Confused and terrified, the mortician contacted the hospital and family, hysterically demanding an answer for how a dead girl came back to life. Her sudden resurrection stumped doctors and experts alike. Unable to find any rational reason that Hannah was not only no longer dead, but had repaired her crushed vital organs, the mysterious case was passed on to higher authorities. That is to say, Hannah’s case was given to the federal government in hopes they could track someone down to unravel the mystery. Within weeks, the Keller Institute volunteered to take Hannah on, claiming that with their capable staff and top of the line technology, they would be able to help Hannah cope with her strange ability and discover just how she managed to resurrect herself. With no other options, the Thompson family sent their little girl off to the organization, hoping she would get the help they believed she needed. From day one, the Keller Institute were fascinated by Hannah’s power. Curious to see the inner workings of the tiny body that could cheat death itself, they begun running experiments on the child. At first, it was simple; how fast does her heart beat, does she have any unique reactions to light - but the lack of progress begun to frustrate the scientists working her case. No matter how they looked at her, there was nothing unique or special about her; not her eyes, no her organs, everything was completely human. So, they begun to up the ante. Toying with how fast Hannah could heal, a newer member of the team accidentally pushed too far, slicing one of Hannah’s major arteries, causing the twelve year old girl to bleed to death on the operating table. Concerned they might have just lost the key to developing immortality in humans, the doctors scrambled to revive their patient, desperately hoping she could save herself when their attempts failed miserably. Thirty minutes later, Hannah was awake. Dizzy from blood loss, but awake and alive nonetheless. The pattern continued for years; the doctors would test a theory, Hannah would die and her body to automatically restart an hour or two later. It wasn’t until one of her new doctors, Dr. Abal, suggested that Hannah’s revivals may change in strength depending on emotional and social connections, power of love and all that nonsense, that she was allowed to leave the facility. Nineteen years old, she was sent to Basilius Academie to test yet another theory, this time under the guise of wanting her to finish her education a year late. | TEST SUBJECT |
